Loft conversions and timber framing in Bodmin
Bodmin and mid Cornwall.
MSB Carpentry takes on loft conversions, timber frame builds and full renovations in Bodmin. We are based in St Columb and cover Cornwall, so Bodmin is part of our normal round.
A loft conversion starts with the structure: new floor joists, steels where the design needs them, then stud walls, insulation, roof windows or a dormer, and stairs built to fit the house. We finish ready for decorating.
Timber frames are cut and built on site, which suits extensions, one-off houses and awkward plots. Once the frame is up we carry on with the roof, soffits, fascias and cladding.
Planning rules vary across Cornwall. Conservation areas, the Cornwall National Landscape and the mining World Heritage Site all limit what can be done to a roof without permission, so it is worth checking early for a house in or near Bodmin.

Loft conversions: a plain guide
What makes a loft suitable, the main types of conversion, and what has to happen to turn a roof space into a proper room.
Do you need planning permission for a loft conversion?
Often you do not. Here are the limits that decide it, and why parts of Cornwall are different.
Can a trussed roof be converted?
Yes. It takes more structure than an older roof, but it is done all the time.
